TTRPGs
Do we got proper nerds here that roll dice?
I played D&D, Call of Cthullhu, Shadowrun, Warhammer Fantasy RPG and some more. Currently still playing CoC and D&D.
used to love dnd but when my friend who's the usual DM stopped making campaigns I basically stopped playing lol
Yeah, same here—been deep into CoC lately, love the slow-burn horror vibe. I miss Shadowrun though, the mix of magic and cyberpunk was wild. Ever tried GMing yourself or mostly a player?

Ah damn that sucks. DMing yourself isn't your cup of tea?

based. Yes, I both play and GM. I have 2 groups of friends where it's also mixed. We have some forever-players but thankfully no forever GMs, we take turns. Last year I finished GMing a 1.5 year long campaign and now I'm just a player seat at two tables but I can feel my itch to GM coming back slowly so I'll probably be back in the GM seat next year again.
Shadowrun is interesting. I only played the typical fantasy systems before and suddenly having access to modern technology in hyper ubranised mega-cities is a very stark change of pace and my table struggled adjusting to it. I liked the excursion there and I might wanna play a cyberpunk setting again but I definitely understand why fantasy is THE go to setting for TTRPGs. I think it's both easier to GM and play.
CoC is amazing though. It's the perfect counter balance to D&D I think. D&D is loud, action and oftentimes silly while CoC is slow paced, serious and very RP heavy. My fav mechanic is the Luck system where it's both an attribute but also a finite resource. I copied that for D&D and let people throw 4d6 (drop lowest) as their hidden luck stat and call upon it the same way the CoC rulebook says.
It's so helpful as a GM too when players ask quetions like: "Do I happen to know X?" and no particular stat would help, then we can just let the dice decide since sometimes such things are just pure chance anyway.
